The concept of "can't afford to own a car" affects more people than are probably willing to admit it.

That is when you see hidden, and often completely overlooked costs of automobile ownership:

deterioration of physical fitness

lack of connection with the immediate community

loss of unplanned social encounters

fewer opportunities to hear the birds sing, see the flowers bloom, the trees blossom, the changing seasons...

and so many more.
