At first on Saturday morning, June 6, the weather didn't seem interested in rewarding the Staten Island Creative Community's hard work in sponsoring, organizing, promoting and securing space for the Art by the Ferry festival's second, two-weekend-long event.
It didn't seem to matter, either, that members of the Staten Island Collaborative, or SICOLAB, a group of younger Staten Island-based artists, were riding the boat, wearing or displaying their art and inviting passengers to get off the boat, get out of the terminal, and get into Art by the Ferry.
But by about 1 p.m., when I arrived--two hours after the 11 a.m. kickoff, which meant I missed the Staten Island Gay Pride Parade--the sun seemed to have made a decision to hang around for the balance of the day as I and many others walked up and down the streets of St. George, which had been turned into a very large art-themed block party.
[What follows is only a very small sampling of what I and many others saw. I hope to post a neighbor's photos of the Staten Island Pride event in the next few days.]

GLASS STUDIO OFFERS EXHIBITION SPACE FOR FLAT-FEE RENTAL;
NO COMMISSIONS ON SALES
During my Art by the Ferry visit to THE STUDIO 150 at 150 Bay Street, Tompkinsville--which specializes in hand-blown glass and custom-fused art glass--I noticed a poster offering artists, whether individuals or groups, the opportunity to rent THE STUDIO 150's exhibition space, including wall and pedestal space, for a flat fee, with no commissions on sales.
While I can't say whether the space is suitable for your work or medium, I can say that the facilities are clean, high-ceilinged, well lighted, and attractive. For more information, please contact Ryan McGivern and Justin Gaynor of THE STUDIO 150 at 718-816-4726 or 631-428-1291.
The Studio 150's website is at studio150glass.com.
