« A FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHER TAKES TO THE STREETS | Main | WEEKEND ONLINE GALLERY: RAGNAR NAESS »

I visited Governor's Island recently with my family on bikes. All I could think of, is why don't we have the same ammenities on the St. George waterfront? A man-made sand beach complete with a cafe. I couldn't believe it. Free kayaking. Bike rentals. It is a fabulous place to take a nap (try one under the giant wind chime hanging from a willow). Swingsets are under construction, picnic tables, etc... Concert spaces everywhere, art galleries. Events every weekend. If we just had easier access to the raw waterfront that we have that would be a start. The sand beach is over the top actually...

The Esplanade could have the elegance of London's Embankment, just as the hill's of St George could have the excitement and drama of San Francisco. What a lost opportunity.
